Shrimp farming up close
Where pigs were once raised, shrimps are now farmed without antibiotics or other additives. Immerse yourself in a different world on a 300-year-old farm in Burgdorf. Behind stable doors, where pigs and their piglets used to live, shrimps now swim in tanks of different sizes. Inside, you can hear the water rippling and the temperature is pleasant for visitors.
The world's best-selling farmed shrimp
On arrival, you will be greeted by an expert. He will show you how shrimp production works. You will receive interesting information about the rearing and fattening of the animals. During your tour of the facility, you will see how a tiny postlarva grows into a large shrimp in the tanks. This is the Pacific white shrimp. This shrimp is a ten-foot shrimp that originally comes from the eastern Pacific and is one of the most important farmed shrimps sold worldwide.
Apéro on the farm
The farm offers you various aperitif options:
- The standard version includes a tour of the tanks followed by a tasting of delicious grilled shrimp. You and your guests will also be served a glass of wine, mineral water or apple juice from the farm .
- The extended version offers the same tour. Afterwards, more shrimps (a total of four per person) and wine are served à discrétion. The aperitif-riche version offers a hearty aperitif after the tour with plenty of shrimps, Züpfen, cheese, Mostbröckli and vegetable dips.
Farm tour
The farm does not only breed shrimps. From spring to fall, you can also visit the farm's own potato, corn, sugar beet and fruit crops.
